David Favrod

I found this work difficult to access.  Favrod says that mystery is important to him.  When he exhibits he presents an artist statement at the entrance of the gallery but then offers no further captioning.  Unfortunately, I was unable to find any such statement on the web.  But instead, I read Sharon Boothroyd’s interview.  Favrod explains the photographs in detail unfortunately this then shuts them down for me.

For example Boothroyd discusses the image ‘Mishiko’.

David Favrod. ‘Mishiko’ 2012

Favrod explains that she was the daughter of his grandfather.  She fell ill during World War II and was diagnosed with poor hydration.  She was advised to eat the watermelon. Unfortunately, the doctors had incorrectly diagnosed her and she died shortly afterwards of a salt deficiency.
