Sally Mann (1951)

Mann is an American photographer born in Lexington, Virginia.  Her book entitled ‘Southern Landscapes’ features moody atmospheric pictorialist landscape shots.

(Mann, 2013)

I watched an interview between Sally Mann and Charlie Rose.  In it Mann talks about the effects that taking pictures can have on you.   She says ‘There are pictures that if you didn’t have them you wouldn’t remember that moment but there are also pictures that because you have them you don’t remember the dimentionality of the moment’ (Mann, 2016).  By that she means people will stand taking photographs of, say, a great painting rather than actually looking at the painting itself. It amused me when attending a recent concert I witnessed so many people videoing rather than engaging in the moment.
